Write-ups for Winter 2012/13 season


Week 1 - 24th October 2012

The Daventry Darts Winter League started this week, with 12 teams split into 2 divisions.

The first game in Division 1 saw defending winter league champions Slim Jims visit Con Club A and they got off to a great start by taking both pairs games when Rich Denis (140 x 3, 100 x 3) and Sam Harris (81, 80) beat Ivan Lester (140, 100) and Robin Peasland (100 x 3) 2-1, followed by a 2-1 win for Dave Harris and Paul Butler (180, 140, 100 x 2) over Stuart Coe Snr (140) and Simon Adkins (100 x 2). The domination continued in the singles with away wins for Troy Miller (127, 118, 100) 2-0 over Simon Adkins (100 x 2), Paul Butler (100 x 4) 2-0 over Ivan Lester (140, 100 x 3), Rachel Harris (121, 100, 85, 83, 81) 2-0 over Nick Coe and finally Rich Denis (121, 100 x 5) 2-0 over Robin Peasland (125). Stuart Coe Snr (121) gained a consolation win for the home side when beating Andy Teale (140, 100) 2-1 but it is Slim Jims who came away with an overall 6-1 win.

Game 2 saw Caseys host DWMC B and this was a tight game early on as the away side took the opening pairs with a 2-0 win for Allan Taylor (121, 101) and Rich Ludlow (100 x 2) over Dave Summerfield and Gary Birch, only for the home side to draw level when Ray Jones (180, 119, 100, 118f) and Chris Gay (100) beat Connor Taylor and Gav Taylor (140) 2-0. The home side went in front when Nigel Turland (100 x 4) beat James Taylor (140, 100 x 2) 2-1 but the away side made it all square again when Tony Leedham (121) beat CJ (100 x 2) 2-0. From then on it was the home side who took control with wins for Ray Jones (100 x 2) 2-1 over Willie Taylor (140), Luke Spence (180, 140, 100) 2-0 over Dave Keating (140) and finally Dave Summerfield (140, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Rich Ludlow (140) to give Caseys an overall 5-2 win.

The final game in Division 1 saw Long Buckby FC visit The George and it was the home side who took both pairs games with 2-0 wins for Juice (100 x 2) and Mick Doney over Ray Feasey and Pete Shirley (140, 100) followed by Bully (125, 100 x 2) and Hemps (100 x 2) over Mick Feasey (125, 100) and Iain Bow. There were more home wins in the singles for Hemps (140, 100 x 2) 2-0 over Ged Berrill, Bully (140, 122, 100 x 3) 2-1 over Mick Feasey (105, 100, 120f) and Mick Doney (121, 100 x 3) 2-1 over Joe Gammidge (115). The away side got on the scoreboard when Iain Bow (140, 125, 100 x 3) beat Kevin (100) 2-0 but another home win in the final game for Juice (180, 139, 100 x 2) over Ray Feasey gave The George a 6-1 win overall.

The first game in Division 2 saw Con Club B at home to Wheatsheaf Weedon B. Here the away side took both pairs games when Tom Babbings and Dave Bangs beat Bruce Andrews and Donna Taylor 2-0 followed by a 2-0 win for Dave Needham and Paul Marsh (100 x 2) over Packy Andrews and Mick Mynard. The domination continued with singles wins for Tom Babbings (100) 2-1 over Bruce Andrews and Dave Needham 2-0 over Packy Andrews. The home side got on the scoreboard with a 2-1 win for Roe Binder (108, 84f) over Dave Bangs (125, 100) but further away wins for Nigel Jones (100 x 2) 2-1 over Mick Mynard and Paul Marsh (100) 2-0 over Donna Taylor (94, 85) gave Wheatsheaf Weedon B a 6-1 win overall.

Game 2 saw Dun Cow entertain Wheatsheaf Braunston and this was the closest game of the week. The away side got off to a great start by taking both pairs games when Gavin Taylor and Gordy Aldridge (100) beat Alex Miller (100) and Steve Berry 2-1 followed by a 2-0 win for Glen Thompson (121) and Tommy Kendall (120) over Keith Chapman and Nev Thornicroft. The home side then stormed back with singles wins for Keith Chapman 2-1 over Glen Thompson, Rich Elliot 2-1 over Gavin Taylor (106, 100 x 2), Clive Hart (135, 100 x 2) 2-0 over Gordy Aldridge (125) and Alex Miller (125, 100 x 2) 2-1 over Tommy Kendall (100 x 4). The final game went to the away side when Adie Maybury (140, 116) beat Steve Berry 2-0 but it is Dun Cow who took an overall 4-3 win.

The final game between Kings Head, Long Buckby and Wheatsheaf Weedon A will be rearranged.

Performances of the week came from Paul Butler (180), Rich Denis (13 x 100+), Juice (180), Mick Feasey (120 finish), Ray Jones (180 and 118 finish), Luke Spence (180) and Roe Binder (84 finish).
